Welcome to Gramsbergen, a picturesque town steeped in history and charm. With its atmospheric streets, authentic buildings and friendly atmosphere, it is the ideal destination for anyone looking for peace and adventure.
Gramsbergen offers a wealth of attractions, such as the unique Historical Culture-Historical Information Point (CHIP), where you can learn more about the local history. For instance, Gramsbergen (Low Saxon: Grambargn) was granted city rights in 1442, and during the time of the Hanseatic League (until around 1500 AD), there were several important Hanseatic cities in Overijssel, such as Kampen, Zwolle, and Deventer. Gramsbergen was connected to the then-important trading city of Deventer due to its location on a significant navigable connection via the Vecht river.
Stroll through the market and enjoy a cup of coffee on one of the cozy terraces, while you soak in the charm of this authentic town. Of course, you can also enjoy a delicious craft beer on the terrace of Brewery Mommeriete (De Oostermaat 66) or take a trip on the Vechtezomp from there. Also, in the nearby area you will find the Pond Gardens of Ada Hofman (Loozen, 4 km) and the Gardens of Mien Ruys (Dedemsvaart, 16 km).
The city also regularly organizes events such as Gramsbergen Light City (August 30th to September 7th, 2025). The festivities are organized by the Oranjevereniging Gramsbergen and for 9 days, Gramsbergen Light City is a fascinating spectacle with tens of thousands of lights illuminating and decorating the streets. To fully appreciate the fairy-tale scenes, routes have been set up. You can easily drive or cycle these routes, which take you through the streets of Gramsbergen.
For nature lovers, the Vechtdal region is a true paradise. Discover picturesque bike routes and hiking trails along the Vecht river, with its breathtaking views and diverse flora and fauna. Visit the nearby nature reserves, such as the beautiful Reestdal, where you can fully immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of nature. Don't forget to take a look at the historic windmills that adorn the landscape.
The region also offers plenty of fun for families. From adventurous day trips to amusement parks (Speelparadijs Cowboy & Indianen Speelreservaat Coevorden at 7 km, Attractiepark Slagharen at 10 km and Plopsa Indoor Coevorden at 14 km) to exploring zoos (Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen at 30 km) – there's something for everyone! Gramsbergen is not only a gateway to natural beauty, but also an ideal base for cultural excursions to charming places like Hardenberg, Coevorden, Ommen and Dalfsen.
